Dr. Asif is a senior resident on team A, specifically under Dr. Bracken. He joined McMaster Family Practice in July 2022. Prior to this, he completed his undergraduate degree at McMaster University in 2018 and his medical degree at Queen’s University in 2022. He loves family medicine for its broad scope, the wide range of patients in terms of both age and disease, and the ability to connect with patients on a human level.

In his spare time, he enjoys spending time outdoors with his family, trying new recipes in the kitchen, teaching his cat (Cookie) new tricks, and weightlifting. Dr. Asif is passionate about acute care as well as immigrant and refugee care.

Jill joined McMaster Family Practice in 2013 after working in a variety of public and private health care settings, in Canada and internationally. After completing an undergraduate degree in Kinesiology from Western University, she qualified as a physiotherapist at McMaster University. Jill quickly fell into health care management and business roles in addition to practicing as a clinician. As the Program Director, Health Services for the DFM and the Clinic Director of a variety of the DFM clinics, Jill now works full time in these leadership roles. Her passion is working with and advocating for the interdisciplinary team, supporting learners, as well as the challenges of growing the Health Services portfolio.

In her spare time, Jill enjoys travelling, being surrounded by nature, spending time with friends and family as well as volunteering for local not-for-profit organizations.

Keyna Bracken is a Professor in the Department of Family Medicine at McMaster University with a full-time academic clinical practice at McMaster Family Practice. The former Undergraduate and Clerkship director for the Department of Family Medicine, from 2016 until July 2022, Keyna is now the Chair Pre-Clerkship at the DeGroote School of Medicine where she actively works to champion the discipline of Family Medicine. Keyna is actively involved in teaching both at the undergraduate and postgraduate level with a special clinical interest in Women’s Health which has spanned comprehensive surgical obstetrical care across both high and low resource countries. Keyna has an academic fascination with the topic of optimal clinical learning environments and assessment in undergraduate medical education and is actively involved in several medical education research projects on that topic with both residents and undergraduate learners.

Carissa (she/her) joined the operations team at McMaster Family Practice as the FHT Coordinator in March 2023. In addition to her role, Carissa serves as a member of the EDI Health Equity Group, and is apart of many initiatives within the practice and department.

In her spare time, Carissa enjoys playing tennis, being a part of the Steel City Inclusive Softball League, volunteering in the community and honing her creativity in the kitchen or interior design.

As the FHT Coordinator, Carissa is involved in many projects and initiatives. She also enjoys being a part of the Race-Based and Social Determinants of Health Data Working Group which is very important to her as a First Nations-Ojibwe, and the McMaster Family Practice Giving Group.

When Carissa is not at work, she enjoys playing tennis, being a part of the Steel City Inclusive Softball League, volunteering in the community and honing her creativity in the kitchen or interior design.

Kiska Colwill joined McMaster Family Practice in 2011. She received her degree in Pharmacy from the University of Dalhousie in Nova Scotia. Kiska has practiced in a variety of clinical settings including community pharmacy, hospital pharmacy and ambulatory care until she found her true passion in family medicine. Kiska brings her unique expertise in medication therapy to help her patients achieve their goals while collaborating with their team. Kiska has special interests in helping patients with complex polypharmacy assessments, chronic disease management, deprescribing and teaching both patients and learners.

Anna Dul (she/her) joined McMaster Family Practice as a staff physician in 2015 after completing her undergraduate and residency training at McMaster University. She enjoys full-scope family practice and caring for patients across all ages and stages of life.

Megan has been a Physician Assistant in family medicine since 2016 and joined McMaster Family Practice in 2020. Megan received her Bachelors and Masters at University of Ottawa, then graduated from the Physician Assistant program at McMaster University. Megan finds joy in connecting with patients on a daily basis, helping people in all aspects of health — including social, emotional and physical. Megan loves that each day when she walks into work she will provide an array of care — whether it be well baby visits, routine physicals or complex medical cases. Areas of special interest include prenatal care and pediatrics. Outside of work, Megan enjoys spending time in the outdoors with her family and running. Megan has been involved in various volunteer work throughout Hamilton, including Beautiful Alleys Hamilton.

Giuliana completed her undergraduate in Nursing at Trent University, and her Masters in Nursing and Nurse Practitioner diploma at McMaster University. She began working at MFP in 2022. She is passionate about providing holistic patient-centered care, and values lifelong learning. Giuliana bikes to work and her hobbies include sewing and gardening.

Michael Gallea is a family physician at McMaster Family Practice. Born and raised in the east end of Hamilton, he did his undergraduate training in McMaster’s Arts and Science program and then moved to Toronto to work as a Learning Consultant for a small learning solutions firm. He then moved to Vancouver to complete medical school at the University of British Columbia, and returned home to complete his family medicine residency at McMaster Family Practice, where he now works as a staff physician with a particular interest in medical education.

Tanya is full-time family physician and provides full scope comprehensive care that ranges from newborns to care of the elderly. She feels the most rewarding part about family medicine is the long-term relationships she have made with her patients. It is an honor to be included in and learning about people’s lives and to be able to provide ongoing care to them. In addition to her family practice, she is the lead physician and provider for the Newborn Care Team at St. Joseph’s Hospital.

She is a proud Hamiltonian having been born and raised in the city. She received a Bachelor of Health Sciences from McMaster University, Doctor of Medicine from the University of Western Ontario and completed her residency training in Family Medicine here at McMaster. While she enjoys cooking and baking, most of her time away from work is spent with her family. Together, they love to travel to near and far away places to experience the beauty of the outdoors, and gain appreciation for other cultures and ways of life.

Dr. Henry He, MD CCFP (he/him) is a McMaster trained family physician. He completed his residency right here at McMaster Family Practice under Dr. Greg McGill, and just couldn’t stay away from the MFP family after graduating. He is passionate about medical education, preventative health, and palliative medicine. Outside of medicine he loves to make music, drink coffee, and play with his cat Ollie.

Dr. Jeyaseelan joined the Department in 2015. He completed his undergraduate degree in biochemistry and biomedical sciences at McMaster University, his medical degree at the University of Manitoba and his family medicine residency at McMaster University. The opportunity to care for people in all stages of life and to investigate the undifferentiated presentation is what drew Dr. Jeyaseelan to family medicine. He loves working in team-based care at McMaster Family Practice and also has a special interest in student health, working at the university’s wellness center part-time. When he is not working, you can usually find him spending time with his family or the church community where he serves.

Greetings everyone! I am from Hong Kong and hold a degree in public health from the United States. Following my studies, I delved into the healthcare field as a hospital administrator at the NHS in the UK. In addition to my academic pursuits, I have a profound love for ballet, boasting over a decade of experience in dance. The proud owner of two British Short Hair cats, I’m always eager to connect with fellow cat enthusiasts. As a fervent learner, I thrive in patient-facing roles, believing that healthcare work epitomizes the fundamental determinants of well-being. My day-to-day experiences at MFP have been both challenging and rewarding, pushing me to strive for excellence in catering to the unique needs of every patient. I anticipate the pleasure of crossing paths with you, whether it be within the family practice or out on the streets beyond the confines of work.

Diana joined McMaster Family Practice in 2019. She completed her undergraduate and post-masters degrees at McMaster University. Clinically, Diana works as a nurse practitioner, seeing patients from birth to end-of-life. Diana loves seeing her pregnant patients and babies, as well as and providing care across the health spectrum.

In her spare time, Diana loves spending time with her family, especially her 2 young children. She enjoys travelling, baking, watching sports and making memories with her favourite people!

Ryan joined us as a resident physician at MFP in July 2022. Prior to this, he studied at Bishop’s University in Quebec where he graduated with a BSc: Biology with a double major in Pre-Medicine and a minor in Psychology. He attended medical school at the University of Limerick in Ireland, not far from where his family is originally from in Belfast, Northern Ireland. He is very excited for a career in family medicine and plans to provide comprehensive care to his patients and the community. Ryan has excelled in sports, most notably short track speed skating where he has raced around the globe in over 10 countries in World Championships and the 2018 and 2022 Olympic Qualifiers.

Dr. Jonel Miklea is an Associate Professor in the Department of Family Medicine at McMaster University. He received his training on three different continents. Jonel graduated from the Faculty of Medicine Carol Davila in Bucharest, Romania and completed his Family Medicine residency at McMaster University. He joined McMaster Family Practice as a practicing family physician, and the Department of Family Medicine at McMaster University in 2001. He completed his Masters in Medical Education at Flinders University in Australia. During his time within the department, Jonel has been a committed mentor to medical students, family medicine residents, and international medical graduates. From 2004 until 2011, he was the Program Director of the Family Medicine Undergraduate Program and has been a leader in the development of an integrated clerkship program at McMaster University. In 2003, Jonel was awarded the Gerry Cohen Teaching Award for his excellence as a clinical teacher and his commitment to residency education. In 2008, he was co-recipient of the College of Family Physicians of Canada Outstanding Family Medicine Research Article. Over the years he held different roles in the department from Education Site Coordinator to Faculty Development Local Lead. Jonel pioneered the Adolescent Health Clinic at the Youth and Wellness Center for family medicine residents to sample social accountability during their training. Jonel is a Master Certified Physician Development Coach. His coaching training allows him to facilitate national workshops on coaching peers and learners. He leads the coaching faculty development program for the health sciences and has been doing academic coaching for faculty across the disciplines. Jonel sits on the executive at the Clinical Faculty Association at Hamilton Health Sciences and also actively practices inpatient hospitalist medicine.

Dr. Doug Oliver, CCFP, MD, MSc, BSc (he/him) joined the Department of Family Medicine at McMaster in 2004 as a community family physician, initially working at the North Hamilton Community Health Centre. He transferred to McMaster Family Practice in 2006 and became a full-time academic family doctor in 2007.

Doug continues to enjoy the continuous, comprehensive nature of generalist family medicine and has special interests in Care of the Elderly, End of Life Care and Primary Care Mental Health. He has served as Medical Director at McMaster Family Practice since 2016 and is the lead physician for the Memory Clinic and MAID services in the clinic.

Doug was co-Principal Investigator on the multi-centre Health Tapestry study which looked at models of care designed to integrate community volunteers into primary care settings to help people age more successfully at home. He is currently part of a large 3-year grant which will look at improving primary care access to people living in poorly supported residential care facilities in Hamilton.

Outside of work he enjoys playing music (piano, guitar) and long walks with his partner and kids.

Andrea (she/her) joined McMaster Family Practice in May 2020. She completed both her undergraduate and Physician Assistant degrees at McMaster University. In addition to her clinical role as a Physician Assistant, Andrea serves as the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Lead at McMaster Family Practice. Andrea is passionate about health equity and believes that access to primary care is one of the essential pillars to achieving this goal.

In her spare time, Andrea enjoys running, travel and spending time with family and friends — ideally doing all three at the same time!

Dr. Shah is a Family Physician and Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Family Medicine at McMaster University. He completed his medical school at Western University and Family Medicine residency at McMaster University. He is currently working at McMaster Family Practice, McMaster Student Wellness Center and St. Joseph’s Healthcare in Hamilton. His interests are in the areas of newborn and pediatric care, primary care, mental health, women’s health and medical education.

John Vincent joined the McMaster Family Practice team in 2021 as a resident physician in Family Medicine. He completed his medical training at McMaster University, following a degree in Health Studies at the University of Waterloo, with a minor in Gerontology. John has a special interest in providing comprehensive care for transgender and gender non-conforming patients and working collaboratively with the 2SLGBTQ+ community. He values inclusive and culturally competent medical care and believes strongly in the role of the family physician as an advocate for these issues. John has additional interests in medical education, working as a mentor for medical students during his residency. Outside of clinic hours, John is an avid pianist (having done freelance work as a wedding pianist throughout his education) and enjoys nature, theatre, and music in all its forms.
